Case Resources

Plowshares staff members frequently use case studies in courses and workshops to engage participants in creative dialogue.  Almost 900 problem-posing case studies, a newsletter, an annual journal, training workshops, and personal consultation are available through the Association for Case Teaching (ACT).

Most case books are designed for both parish and academic classroom use.  Many educators find it more cost effective initially to use the Journal or purchase a collection of cases in book form rather than invest in individual cases.  Many of the books include sections on the use of cases in teaching and have model teaching notes.

The broadest resource for conflict or church case studies is the bibliography.  This resource provides a topical index and a brief description of all cases accepted by the case clearing house since 1977 -over 900 cases- as well as articles on case teaching and writing.  Individual cases from the basic bibliography can be ordered at a cost of U.S. $5.00.  The cost per case includes permission to make unlimited copies for classroom use.  The annotated bibliography is located on the ACT page of the Yale Divinity School web site.
